The Nervous System Reset is a unique and powerful blend of Massage, Psychotherapy, and the latest Neuroscience.   It's a BodyMind therapy designed to reduce the amount of trauma carried or imprinted in our nervous system. It was developed by UK psychotherapist and bodyworker, Gerry Pyves, and has been developed over 35 years of full-time clinical practice.

The core movements in an NSR massage soothe and calm your nervous system back into its natural state of regulation and balance.  Whereas most bodywork approaches focus on fixing and changing the body, this approach has focused on simply talking a soothing language of safety and touch that creates natural ease.

The treatment is designed to provide a pathway to remove the ‘locked-in’ energy of trauma from the nervous system and the body.  This allows us to build our resilience - the most crucial aspect of our health and wellbeing.

The Adverse Childhood Experiences study identifies the harm caused to children's developing brains, how they respond to stress, and the damage to their immune systems decades later.   The causes are a child’s needs not being met due to loss, discrimination, poverty, family members with depression, as well as violence, abuse, and neglect.

ACEs determine how we manage life, relationships, and our health.  They are at the root of chronic illness, depression, addiction, and other mental illnesses.  It includes being a victim of violence, bullying, as well as financial and social problems.

‘Practically all illness and sickness, both mental and physical, have their roots in the kind of nervous system dysregulation which is the result of trauma’

FAQ

Q  How do I know if I am experiencing trauma?

There is a growing body of evidence that trauma can be responsible for any of the conditions below.  If you identify yourself as dealing with more than a couple of these health issues, then it is very likely that your nervous system is struggling to maintain your health and well-being due to an overload of trauma.

Signs of trauma include:

  • Tense/hard or sore muscles, especially in the neck, shoulders, or back areas.
  • Ongoing or intermittent pain conditions
  • Migraines, eye or facial tension.
  • Clenching teeth, grinding teeth at night.
  • Arthritis.
  • Skin problems.
  • Asthma.
  • Excessive menstrual pain.
  • Chest pain, HBP
  • Chronic exhaustion, feeling down, lack of energy.
  • Restlessness, hyperactivity
  • Digestive problems, loss of appetite, or excessive eating.
  • Over-exercise or lack of activity.
  • Fearfulness, anger, frustration, nightmares, inflexibility.
  • Excessive worrying, anxiety, nervousness, and depression.
  • Difficulty concentrating, remembering, or decision-making.
  • Drug use (including excessive use of prescription drugs)
How does it work?

The less trauma we carry, the greater our resilience.

Without traditional methods of trauma discharge, the natural balance of life is affected.

Imagine a bucket with a blocked tap.  Every day stresses build up, leaving less room for our natural resilience.  This leaves us feeling less able to cope with life.   Trauma Discharge Therapy acts for trauma like a lightning conductor acts for pent-up electrical energy in nature.  I’m a psychotherapist, but we don’t talk about trauma directly in these sessions, instead, we find a ‘key’ or technique to discharge it using a blend of talk and body therapy

The Resilience Bucket. Grow your resilience to displace stress and trauma
Q  What happens in an NSR treatment?

This is quite different from how many massage therapists work.  I’m a psychotherapist, but we don’t talk about trauma directly in these sessions, instead, we find a ‘key’ or technique to discharge it using a blend of talk and body therapy.  Before the consultation regarding your health, we work together to establish safety measures to put you at ease before, during, and after your treatment. Your feedback and input during the session are essential.

With your agreement, the massage will focus on very gentle but powerful movements aimed directly at soothing your nervous system.  Due to everything that has preceded this touch, you may well find yourself drifting off into a state of semi-sleep, which is the ideal state for your nervous system to ‘reset’ itself.

Q  Does it hurt?

No.  Quite the opposite.  The aim is to discharge trauma out of the body to help the nervous system return to its normal state of healthy self-regulation.  It does this by using touch and body movements that are ‘trauma-informed’.  There is none of the prodding and poking or invasive pressure commonly associated with ‘deep’ bodywork.  These are the types of bodywork that are likely to add to our level of trauma as they ’startle’ the nervous system and put it more on edge.  The NSR massage is gentle and very pleasant.  Many clients often drift off into a state of semi-sleep.

Q  Will I need to undress?

A  No.  You can receive an NSR massage clothed or unclothed, with a towel and oil.

I am a trauma-informed therapist and will ask if you are uncomfortable undressing and always work in a way to support you to feel completely at ease.

Q  How will I feel after NSR?

You may feel lighter, as if a weight has been lifted.  Often, there is a sense of relief and freedom.  This is because the body is free of holding patterns and tension you may have experienced for years.

Sometimes NSR is accompanied by yawning, sighing, or a gentle shaking or trembling.

There may be noticeable changes in how you move and breathe after your session.

After several NSR sessions, you may notice an increased resilience in your life.  You may notice you fight off illnesses quickly, cope better with everyday stresses, and generally feel more positive.

Q  How long will it take?

We begin with a minimum of four weekly or twice weekly sessions.  The first session will be longer, so we can establish your needs and goals and create safety measures before, during, and after your treatment.  The following sessions will be approximately 90 minutes, and we will discuss your progress and next steps regularly.

Q How do I book?

I will always require a pre-treatment consultation before you book your first NSR session. Call or message me to arrange this. Once this is completed you can book directly or via my website
